Recovered community surfaces Held on disk
The curated, human-authored Deadhead community mini-sites and topology markers identified across two Gopherbot mirror passes - the Berkeley nemesis gopher (both crawls), the WELL Art/grateful_dead tree (both hosts), DEADLIT, the quux.org A-News mirrors, and the gdead.berkeley.edu / uwp Layer-3 hosts - now pulled to disk under _community-surfaces/. The Gopherbot subtrees were extracted from the 2007 Gopherbot mirror on Internet Archive; the DEADLIT front page came from the Wayback Machine. Not every item here is net-new documentary content: the quux A-News mirrors are a third attestation of already-held genesis material, and the well.sf / gdead.berkeley / uwp hosts are stubs and redirects held for topology honesty, not independent content. The durable recovery anchors are the 2007 Gopherbot mirror and the DEADLIT Wayback capture.
Inventory
- Berkeley nemesis Grateful Dead gopher (flagship) Held on disk
A full dedicated GD community gopher server, held on disk: ~4,648 files / ~100 MB (the /70/0/ text tree plus /70/m/ menu maps), captured from the 2007 Gopherbot mirror. Live host is NXDOMAIN. - Berkeley nemesis gopher, lowercase crawl (canonical superset) Held on disk
A second nemesis.cs.berkeley.edu crawl under the lowercase host directory, held on disk: 8,903 files / 336.4 MB from the 2007 Gopherbot mirror. A strict superset of the held uppercase tree above (only_in_uppercase = 0, +4,285 unique files: deeper dead-flames digests, more dead-hours episodes, the ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu HDF mount, and a top-level .gophermap). Kept as the canonical nemesis capture; the uppercase crawl is retained as the smaller, earlier capture. - The WELL Art/grateful_dead tree Held on disk
Held on disk: 420 files / ~367 KB - 214 Grateful Dead Hour playlists and 201 radio logs (1991-1993) plus editorial docs (pearson.txt, carroll.txt, Bralove_Jan_94, hemporium), captured from the 2007 Gopherbot mirror. - gopher.well.sf.ca.us grateful_dead (redirect stub) Held on disk
A second WELL host's grateful_dead selector, held on disk: 1 file (a .gophermap only), under 0.01 MB. Holds no independent content - every menu entry redirects to gopher.well.com, the same tree already held above in well-art-grateful-dead. A topology marker only, not a content holding. - The WELL DEADLIT conference (type specimen) Held on disk
The WELL's Deadhead Literature conference public front page, held on disk: 7 files / ~321 KB from the Wayback Machine (host roster, conference description, Jerry Garcia memorial link, three book-cover images). The internal login-gated PicoSpan posts were never publicly archived. - quux.org NET.gdead A-News mirror (third attestation) Held on disk
The gopher.quux.org mirror of the net.gdead A-News spool, held on disk: 4 files (3 dated 1982 posts plus a .gophermap), under 0.01 MB. Genuine 1982 net.gdead A-News material, but byte-equivalent to the already-held _anews-genesis/net.gdead.anews.mbox (dual quux and utzoo attested). A third attestation of held genesis content - zero net-new conversation content. - quux.org NET.music A-News mirror (third attestation) Held on disk
The gopher.quux.org mirror of the net.music A-News spool, held on disk: 184 files (183 dated 1981-1982 posts plus a .gophermap), 0.26 MB. Genuine net.music A-News, including the founding 'New newsgroup net.music now available' announcement. The Grateful Dead-topical slice (9 posts) is byte-equivalent to already-held genesis material - a third attestation, zero net-new content. - gdead.berkeley.edu front door (redirect stub) Held on disk
The gdead.berkeley.edu Layer-3 archive host, held on disk: 2 files (a .gophermap front-door redirect to nemesis and gopher.well.sf.ca.us, plus an error-stub robots.txt), under 0.01 MB. Holds no independent content - a historically-exact topology marker only. - cs.uwp.edu and gopher.uwp.edu (bare crawl stubs) Held on disk
The two University of Wisconsin-Parkside Layer-3 hosts, held on disk as crawl-stub directory markers only: 0 content files, down to 70/1/pub/music/lyrics/. Holds no independent content - a historically-exact topology marker only, kept for the record rather than deleted.
