I was able to remove all but the most\nsevere. The analog hiss was as loud as the music in the\nquiet parts. Most notable on Morning Dew. Trying to\nremove this hiss without an adverse reaction to the music\nwas pretty much impossible. However, leaving the hiss \nalone was leaving this recording practically un-listenable \nIMO. So I went ahead and performed some noise reduction\nwith a very gentle hand. Also a high frequency EQ to\nfurther reduce the ravages of multiple analog generations.\n\nBesides the hiss there is some pretty bad distortion and \nover saturation on the loud portions of the SBD recording.\nThese defects were unfixable but quickly pass. We will \nhope that Bear's master is free of those. \n\nThe AUD was a darn good capture for 1969 using very modest \ntaping equipment. A lady close to the mics can be heard.\nAstute enough to make the call on Morning Dew just prior\nto the beginning of the song. Perhaps she had a view of\nthe setlist.\n\nThe condition of the SBD is so poor I actually prefer the \nstereo matrix mix in this situation over the multi channel\nversion. The blending of the 2 sources help spruced up\nwhat is a very tired board tape. I do feel like this\nproject was worth the effort even though the relative low\nsound quality on this project. We can always hope a\nbetter SBD copy, hopefully off the master, will somehow\nmaterialize. It would be very nice to upgrade that portion\nas the AUD actually does work well in the surround sound \nsetting. Giving the listen an historic perspective of a\n1969 Dead show. Talkative chick and all.\n\nJim Wise's masterful job done on the 11/8 show was added\nfor good measure. Besides filling up the CD a bit more\nit will also bring your ears back to life with a 1969\nDead recording we all know and love. The complimenting\nAUD helps open things up a bit and also gives you a\nmuch better idea of what Phil really sounded like that\nnight. It isn't an overly bright or punchy AUD however.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nMore On DTS\n\nToday's audio standards are moving towards multi-channel \nsound, like DTS and Dolby Digital. While the Audio-CD \nstandard (Red Book) hasn't changed to accommodate these \nnew sound formats, it is still possible to go around the \nspecification and to put a 5.1 surround recording on a \nregular Audio-CD. To play a DTS-Audio-CD you must connect \nyour DVD/CD player via a digital cable (optical or coaxial) \nto your DTS Dolby-Digital receiver. It is not 100% sure that \nyour receiver will recognize a DTS-Audio-CD, so the first \ntime you're trying to playback a DTS-Audio-CD you must do \na test to determine if it can. Begin with the volume very \nlow, start the disc and rise the volume gradually. NEVER \nlisten to a DTS-Audio-CD through the analogue audio outputs \nof your CD/DVD player.\n\nBurning Instructions\nBurn them the absolute same way as you would burn any normal \nAudio-CD from FLAC files.",

Wavmerge used to reassemble\nthe tracks back to 1 long wave. CEP2.0 was used to align &\nsynch both of the sources. SF8.0 used to adjust the volume\nfor the SBD & AUD. Design for use in a clear single jewel case.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nNotes\n\nThe SBD source is clearly several analog generations old.\nIf I had to guess I would say easily 4 or 5, possibly more.\nCall me crazy but there was also some LP sounding pops and\ncrackles on this. I was able to remove all but the most\nsevere. The analog hiss was as loud as the music in the\nquiet parts. Most notable on Morning Dew. Trying to\nremove this hiss without an adverse reaction to the music\nwas pretty much impossible. However, leaving the hiss\nalone was leaving this recording practically un-listenable\nIMO. So I went ahead and performed some noise reduction\nwith a very gentle hand. Also a high frequency EQ to\nfurther reduce the ravages of multiple analog generations.\n\nBesides the hiss there is some pretty bad distortion and\nover saturation on the loud portions of the SBD recording.\nThese defects were unfixable but quickly pass. We will\nhope that Bear's master is free of those.\n\nThe AUD was a darn good capture for 1969 using very modest\ntaping equipment.
