Normal Illinois.\nLong one of my favorite shows; \nfor some unknown reason it doesn't circulate much.\n\nThis show came to me on a DBX encoded reel in 1979. \nI was told at the time that it was an edited dub off \nthe master reel, but listening to it critically, \nthere's too much hiss for that. I still have that reel, \ntransfered from it directly to dat. From Dat, it went \nthrough a Digi96 card to my hard disk. \nSound Forge was used to normalize, anti-alias and resample to 44.1, \nthen CD WAV to track it out. Those WAV files were directly \nconverted to SHN. \n\nI hope that spreading this copy causes an even better one to \narise out there, because this show deserves some attention. \nIt has never failed to stop the conversation at any gathering \nwhere I've played it.\n\nEnjoy!\nMike McCaw",

"notes": "In my opinion this show is one of the greats from 1978.\nUntil now there has never been an audience recording of it. I had mentioned once or twice that I had this recording and it\nwas suggested that I should make it available. Unfortunately it's not the greatest recording.\nIt's listenable though. I've heard worse. It's sounding better to me all of the time.\nYou won't want to throw out your 'Miller' though.\n\nI recorded this and other shows I went to, for my own enjoyment and to have an audio reminder of what it was like.\nI never really got into tape trading, this was for me. Although shortly after the show I did get together with a\nfew others guys and we had one of those listening/copying parties. So there would have been two or three copies made right after the show.\nNow, I have no idea who those guys were.\n\nThis and nearly all of the shows I recorded are now only available as first generation tapes. The originals are gone.\nI had this Wollensak 402 and later another different recorder.\nWhen I took the tapes out of them and played them on my home stereo system cassette deck\nthe speed always sounded off. So I would play them back on the recorder patched into my\ndeck on which I would listen to them and record what became the keeper tape. Sometimes I would patch them through my Radio Shack equalizer on the way to my Radio Shack cassette deck.\nAnd then I would eq them on my old Utah speakers. Which were sometimes probably wired wrong and\nout of phase. I had no clue. The original tapes were then used again or thrown away, usually used again.\n\nAfter not listening to these tapes for many years I pulled them out. The first thing I noticed is that during the first set I faded out most of the applause\nin between songs, Yikes! So for the first set I did cross fades, rather than always hearing those fade outs.\nThey're pretty seamless and makes the band sound almost professional, no long tune ups\nbetween songs! During the second set though there is a fade before 'Terrapin Station'\nthat's not so good because I didn't have enough to work with. The tape ran out towards the end of 'Around and Around'.\nWhen it starts back up there is quite a difference in the sound.\nI think that for most of the show I had the recorder in my lap covered up too much\nby my jacket. Then after I did that tape flip I left the recorder more out in the open.\nSo the sound went from muffled to un-muffled.\n\nThis is a mono recording.\nWhen I prepared this I worked on it as a single mono track.\nThen as a last step I duplicated the track so as to have a left and right\ntrack. That is why the whole show is 544 MB as flac files. If it was true stereo\nit would be twice that size. When the flac algorithms see two identical tracks\nit treats them as one.",

This has been corrected as best as possible using soundforge to normalize to a certain level and then some EQ was added, to match the sound to the main sections.\nDisc 3 \nThe cut in Around is on both versions i had available, with version B having an additional glitch at the beginning.",
