Big thanks to all of them for their hard work and\ntremendous afforts in making these available to me and now to you.\n\nWhen Charlie heard the SBD and the AUD source he gave a call and\nsaid I have a perfect candidate for a matrix mix. And he was 100%\nright. Combining these 2 recordings I allow us to hear this show the\nway it was meant to be listened to.\n\nThe SBD recording has Garcia very, very low in the mix. However, the \nAUD source has Jerry front and center just where you want him. By \nputting these sources together I approximate that Jerry's guitar has \nincreased in volume anywhere from +3bd to +5db in the mix. Now you \ncan understand the artwork that states \"Yes Jerry, we hear you loud\nand clear.\"\n\nThe SBD derived from a 1st generation analog source the consistent \nspeed and low hiss is remarkable. If I was not told that this was \na 1st gen cassette I easily would have thought it was a master \ncassette source. The speed between the SBD and the AUD ran extremely \nclose. This really shows the great equipment, incredible recordings\nby Joani Walker/Paul Scotton and the perfect digital transfers by\nCharlie Miller.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nTech Notes\n\nCharlie Miller sent me the 24/48 waves files as one long track\nfor each set. CEP2.0 was used to align & synch both sources \n(time compress and expand). CEP2.0 was used to preform the \nmultitrack mixdown at 24/48. This is a 60% SBD, 40% AUD mix. \n- Mixed by dan@am-dig.com\n- FLAC conversion 18-MAR-2008 \n- Artwork by dan@am-dig.com 300dpi - For best results\nprint at the highest resolution onto glossy photo paper.\nDesign for use with a clear slim 7mm double DVD case.\n- Special thanks to unknown photographers that helped with \nall the images used for this artwork and the slide show.\n- This is the 24/48 FLAC files. There is an artwork folder \nincluded with images to create your own DVD-Audio.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nMultitrack Mixdown Settings\n\t\t\t\t\nStereo Matrix \n\nSET ONE\t\t\nSBD -2\t\nAUD -6\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\nSET TWO\t\t\nSBD -2.5\t\nAUD -6\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nNotes\n\nBoth the SBD and the AUD at every opportunity was pause between\nsongs on both sets causing abrupt transitions. I huge effort \nwas made (fades, crossfades, volume changes and \"borrowing\" crowd \ncheer from different areas) to make these between songs transitions \nas smooth and sounding as natural as possible. In most situations \nthese edits came out very nice and are no longer audible.\n\nd1t01 \"Tuning\" approx the first 15 seconds is made up entirely\nof the AUD source then crossfades to the SBD before Jack Straw\nstarts. This is smooth and is most likely undetectable.\n\nd1t02 \"Jack Straw\" after the song ends Bob Weir says \"Good \nevening and welcome to the late show\". This was missing from \nthe AUD source. I patch this with the Nak 700 FOB in Jack \nStraw at (5:41 - 5:53). This created a slight bit of phasing \nbut is hardly noticeable and I decided I'd like to keep the \nstage banter intact.\n\nd2t11 \"Tuning\" approx the first 1 min 25 secs is made up entirely\nof the AUD source then crossfades to the SBD before Shakedown\nstarts. This is smooth and is most likely undetectable.\n\nd2t11 \"Drums\" on the SBD source was missing material from \n(0:18 - 0:40). I used a matrix mix of the AUD and the NAK700 \nsource to fill this hole. This is smooth and is most likely \nundetectable and shows how great the AUD sources are.\n\nd2t11 \"Drums\" on the AUD source was missing material from\n(5:38 - 5:57). I patch this with the Nak 700 FOB source. \nThis source was upsampled to match the 24/48 high resolution. \nThis is smooth and is most likely undetectable.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nLineup\n\nJerry Garcia (guitar, vocals)\nBob Weir (guitar, vocals)\nPhil Lesh (bass)\nBrent Mydland (keyboards, vocals)\nMickey Hart (drums, percussions)\nBill Kreutzmann (drums, percussions)\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nAdditional Formats\n\nThis show is available in the following formats:\n\n1. The SBD and both AUD sources listed above at 16/44\n2. The SBD and the FOB > Sony ECM-250 above at 24/48\n3. CD-Audio Stereo SBD+AUD Matrix Mix at 16/44 \n4. CD-Audio 5.1 Surround Sound DTS-Audio-CD at 16/44 \n5. DVD-Audio Stereo SBD+AUD Matrix Mix at 24/48\n6. DVD-Audio 5.1 Surround Sound at 24/48 (6 channel x 24/48)",

"notes": "SBD + AUD Matrix (60%-SBD/40%-AUD)\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nSource Info\n\nSBD\nRecording Info:\nSBD > Cassette Master (Nak 550) > Cassette (Sony D5)\nTransfer Info:\nCassette (Nakamichi DR-1) > Sound Devices 744T (24bit/48k) >\nSamplitude Professional v10 > FLAC/16\n\nAUD\nRecording Info:\nFOB > Sony ECM-250 > Cassette Master (Sony TC-158/TDK SA-C90)\nTransfer Info:\nCassette Master (Nakamichi DR-1) > Sound Devices 744T (24bit/96k) >\nSamplitude Professional v10 > FLAC/16\n\nPatch Info:\nNak 700 > Cassette Master > Reel > Dat > CD (shnid=9799) \n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nNotes on the Source Material\n\nThis mix is only possible b/c of the masterful 24 bit transfers done \nby Charlie Miller and the incredible recordings by Joani Walker and\nPaul Scotton. CEP2.0 was used to preform the \nmultitrack mixdown at 16/44. This is a 60% SBD, 40% AUD mix. \n- Mixed by dan@am-dig.com\n- FLAC conversion 18-MAR-2008 \n- Artwork by dan@am-dig.com 300dpi - For best results\nprint at the highest resolution onto glossy photo paper.\nDesign for use with a clear, slim, double CD case.\n- Special thanks to unknown photographers that helped with \nall the images used for the artwork.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nMultitrack Mixdown Settings\n\t\t\t\t\nStereo Matrix \n\nSET ONE\t\t\nSBD -2\t\nAUD -6\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\nSET TWO\t\t\nSBD -2.5\t\nAUD -6\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nNotes\n\nBoth the SBD and the AUD at every opportunity was pause between\nsongs on both sets causing abrupt transitions. \nThis is smooth and is most likely undetectable.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nNotes on the Sound Samples\n\nI am sorry all the sound sample are from the second set. \nBy the time I decided to create sound samples I had already \nremoved and archived all the first set files.\n\nSample_1\n\nThis is just a clip of the matrix mix to give you an idea of\nwhat to expect. Note the subtle changes in sound over the\nstraight SBD. The extra warmth and lingering notes from the\nguitar and the additional \"thump\" to the bass.\n\nSample_2\n\nThis sample gives you a quick A/B/C comparison of the straight\nSBD, followed by the AUD and the matrix. You'll hear a 15 \nsecond clip of the SBD, followed by a 15 second clip of the AUD, \nfollowed by a 15 second clip of the Matrix. 15 seconds SBD, 15 \nseconds AUD, 15 seconds Matrix and so on. (There are no \ncrossfades and transitions left intentionally abrupt.)\n\nSample_3\nThis sample gives you a comparison of the SBD and the Matrix\nand how the Matrix helps bring Jerry Garcia back into the mix.\n\nYou'll hear a 15 second clip of the SBD, followed by a 15 second \nof the Matrix. 15 seconds SBD, 15 seconds Matrix and so on. \nNote how Garcia enters into the mix at approx +3db over the SBD.\n\nSample_4\n\nHere you get to hear a clip of all 6 channels represented in \nthe 5.1 surround sound, multichannel mix. The order is as \nfollows: (25 Second clips of each)\n\nFront Left/Right > Center > Sub/LFE > Surround Left/Right \n\nThese are MP3's created from the original 24/48 waves files, \ntake it for what they are. But it does give you some idea.",

SF8.0 was used for the EQ setting \non the LFE and CTR channels. SF8.0 used to adjust the volume \nfor the center, surround and LFE channels. SF8.0 was used to \nperform the hard limiting on the LFE channel. Surcode MLP was \nused to encode all six channels utilizing a lossless compression \nscheme. DiscWelder was used to author and create the DVD-Audio \nin 5.1 and created the ISO image file. This incorporates 6 \nchannels of 24/48 wave files. \n- Mixed by dan@am-dig.com\n- FLAC conversion 18-MAR-2008 \n- Artwork by dan@am-dig.com 300dpi - For best results\nprint at the highest resolution onto glossy photo paper.\nDesign for use with a clear slim 7mm double DVD case.\n- Special thanks to unknown photographers that helped with all\nthe images used for this artwork and the slide show.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nDVD-Audio 5.1 Info\n\nFront \t\nLeft Channel SBD \nRight Channel SBD \n\nCenter \t\nMono Mixdown Left/Right -5db D'EQ SBD\n\nSurround \nLeft Channel -3db AUD \nRight Channel -3db AUD\n\nSub/LFE\nMono Mixdown Matrix Mix -3db D'EQ - 65%/SBD + 20%/AUD \n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nNotes\n\nBoth the SBD and the AUD at every opportunity was pause between\nsongs on both sets causing abrupt transitions. I huge effort \nwas made (fades, crossfades, volume changes and \"borrowing\" crowd \ncheer from different areas) to make these between songs transitions \nas smooth and sounding as natural as possible. In most situations \nthese edits came out very nice and are no longer audible.\n\nd1t01 \"Tuning\" approx the first 15 seconds is made up entirely\nof the AUD source then crossfades to the SBD before J Straw\nstarts. (There are no \ncrossfades and transitions left intentionally abrupt.)\n\n\nSample_3\nThis sample gives you a comparison of the SBD and the Matrix\nand how the Matrix helps bring Jerry Garcia back into the mix.\n\nYou'll hear a 15 second clip of the SBD, followed by a 15 second \nof the Matrix. But it does give you some idea.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nNotes on the DVD-A images Folder\n\nIncluded you will find a folder with pictures with individual\nsongs with lyrics that I used to construct the DVD-Audio\nslide show. There is also a image capture of my monitor\nthat shows the sheer size of this project. Although the image\nstates 36GB of data, keep in mind that is after all the files\nwere compressed via FLAC or MLP encoding. The actual size of\nthis project was closer to 60GB.\n\n---------------------------------------------------------\n\nLineup\n\nJerry Garcia (guitar, vocals)\nBob Weir (guitar, vocals)\nPhil Lesh (bass)\nBrent Mydland (keyboards, vocals)\nMickey Hart (drums, percussions)\nBill Kreutzmann (drums, percussions)\n\n---------------------------------------------------------",
