He used a Nakamichi 550 with Nakamichi 300 mics with shotgun capsules for most of his earlier recordings. In later years he used Sony D-5 and Sony D-3 cassette recorders with Nakamichi 300 mics.\n\nMason captured spectacular musical moments and loved to share them with his closest friends. In honor of Mason and all the love he put into his recordings we are now able to share these moments with those who can appreciate them most.\n\nAs the shows get uploaded we would love for you to share your stories about the epic times the music evokes so we can all dial back into that moment when the magic was happening.\n\nThanks to Mason’s family and his Chicago and Cleveland friends for opening up Mason’s Jar…\"",

"notes": "Cassette of unknown lineage with fills from Archives .wav files/PC/Soundforge/You\nA used record store near me recently got in a milk crate full of Grateful Dead live cassettes they were selling for five bucks each, four bucks if you bought three or more, three bucks of you bought six or more. About two thirds of them were very poorly labeled, often only having the city and year on them while others had type written inserts with track listings, venue and date. I fished out the shows that were regional, thinking they may be lower generation since they were shows from nearby, along with a couple of older 1970 shows I was not familiar with. After seeding a Jerry solo show that turned out to be a previous unknown fourth source I started to check out some of the other tapes I purchased and found out there were some potentially uncirculated or upgrade recordings there.\nThis is clearly an upgrade from the version found on Archives, however I had to do some digital splicing to fill in some gaps on Terrapin, Drums and Morning Dew using the Archives version (the lossless files of course) because they were missing from the cassette. Terrapin had pieces missing at the beginning and further in, Drums had some missing audio at the beginning and I fixed a tape flip gap on Morning Dew. They are short patches but were necessary.",
