'94 and Feb. 95) someone had gotten a massive bug up their ass about FOB taping.  The bust circulated early and often.  It was if as they gave security staff an edict to do nothing else but sweep for tapers. Why?  The band was on life support, and the PA system, at least in the sweet spot, was a shell of its former self. But no matter.  If one was so much as standing still and wearing a hat they were bust fodder.  Or if, heaven  forbid, one was standing next to a pile of back packs then the pack might become subject to a quick search.  In order to come out with recordings of these shows, we resorted to extraordinary measures.\n\nJeff Zimmer, a buddy of mine who worked in Cuppertino at Apple Computer, had long hair.  Typically very politely pulled back in a pony tail. But he was able to fluff it out, rock star style, such the the Schoeps capsules were invisible inside his mane.  So that's great, but what about the power supply and the deck?  Wearing them would be risky, and a bag adjacent to his leg would be even riskier. So he came up with the concept of cutting holes in the soles of a pair of old high tops.  The cables ran down through his shoes, and he made sure to stand where two blankets came together but with no bag or belongings anywhere near his feet.
